Dr. Sharmila’s academic journey is marked by outstanding achievements. She earned her Ph.D. degree from Anna University, Chennai, specializing in the Faculty of Information and Communication Engineering, in July 2013. Her pursuit of knowledge includes a Master of Engineering in Computer Science and Engineering from Annamalai University, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University.
With a profound passion for research, Dr. Sharmila has made significant contributions to the fields of computer vision, image processing, and machine learning techniques. Her scholarly endeavors have resulted in the publication of over 100 papers in prestigious international and national journals and conferences. As a recognized research supervisor at Anna University, she has mentored numerous Ph.D. and M.S. candidates, guiding them towards academic excellence. Under her mentorship, 8 Ph.D. scholars have successfully completed their research, while 4 Ph.D. scholars are actively engaged in innovative research projects within the realm of image and video processing.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Dr. Sharmila actively engages with professional societies, holding memberships in IEEE, IEEE Women in Engineering, IEEE Computer Society, and ACM. Notably, she has been appointed as the Chairperson for IEEE Women in Engineering Madras Section for the years 2023-2024, reflecting her commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in the field of engineering.
